Group Connection

Understanding the dynamics and expectations found within a  group setting can be something that kids with diverse needs struggle with. Craving connection can put strain on an individual and creating a safe space where I can help facilitate connections and support an individual with skills to create lasting relationships is a huge step towards authentic connection. Sessions are for up to 3 individuals at a time, with a prerequisite that we meet for at least one individual session prior to a group session to stock the emotional tool kit necessary to handle a group setting.

Relational

Play Therapy

Ages 3 to Preadolescent

One parent to One Child

For children, especially those with diverse needs, communication can be challenging. Relational Play therapy allows children to communicate through play. From Sue C. Bratton and Garry L. Landreth’s evidence-based Filial Therapy, Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT); you and your child will embark on a 10-session treatment plan.

The therapy model fully involves one parent as the therapeutic change agent in their child’s care and treatment.  Acknowledging the parent as the expert on the wellbeing of their child. I work alongside the parent one on one to develop a new relational skill set.  The parent then implements their newly learned techniques at home with their child.

The parent is closely supported by me and a therapist to encourage insight and understanding in how to respond and react to your child.  30 minutes a week is all that is needed to start making substantial changes in the relationship between the parent and your child.

Sand Tray Therapy

Clients use miniature figurines to create stories that represent a person’s inner world. This can help the client to become aware of unknown past or current challenges in life.  Sand tray therapy is a safe, protected space where clients can move toward healing and the exploration of memories and experiences that may be too uncomfortable or difficult to express or talk about.

This can be practically important for children with diverse needs and a different way of communicating.  Sand tray therapy offers such a protected space for expressing emotions in a way that feels natural and comfortable. Through the unconscious and intuition Sand tray therapy engages the mind-body connection to help clients build communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. Sand Tray therapy can help develop imagination and creativity, strengthen the connection between thoughts, feelings and emotions and also help a child practive social skills through storytelling and role place.  The scenes created in a sand tray reflect the person’s past and present inner thoughts, feelings, and hardships. The benefits of Sand tray therapy are endless, supporting the decrease in anxiety and depression, anger and aggression, improving low self-esteem and a better understanding of self.

Because Sand Tray therapy is visual, sensory and playful, it meets children where they are- helping them to feel in control, relaxed and free to explore at thier own pace.  Each child's sand world is a window into how they see and experience the world- giving them a voice, when words are hard.
